According to NetMarketShare’s September 2018 data, 40.88% are still using Windows 7. Microsoft will no longer support the software, which means no further patches or security updates and a security risk and compliance headache for businesses. If you’re wondering what this means for you, it comes down to this – there will be no patches or security updates, putting your applications and business at risk. New threats won’t be addressed and your Windows 7 systems will become a security risk and compliance nightmare.  As your Trusted IT Partner, we recommend that all systems running Windows 7 are retired prior to December 31, 2019.

Advantage utilizes a three-step approach to upgrading from Windows 7:

  • Discovery of the existing environment
  • Assessment of existing hardware to determine feasibility of an operating system upgrade
  • The upgrade itself
In the coming weeks we will be in touch with you to talk about the retirement of Windows 7 and how it will impact your business. For those of you on our AMS plan, we have already accomplished the first bullet point above.

On the call, we will discuss applications that your business needs to continue to use so that we can recommend the best way to proceed with the workstation changes while having the least impact possible to your business. There may be several different outcomes for any given workstation:

  • Upgrade existing operating systems to Windows 10 (on existing hardware where feasible)
  • Retire existing hardware and replace with a Windows 10 computer
  • Stay on Windows 7 and assume the security risks outlined in this document (NOT RECOMMENDED)
