Get To Know Andrew Freedman, Author And Managing Partner at SHIFT

Andrew Freedman is the managing Partner of SHIFT and the author of Thrive: The Leader’s Guide to Building a High Performance Culture (coming, January 26, 2021).

“I describe myself as a mutt,” says Andrew. “My mom was an elementary school teacher, and my dad was a high-level sales executive, so I’ve got this interesting blend of an insatiable desire to learn, to teach, and at the same time, I love growing businesses.”

SHIFT Consulting is a management consulting firm that follows a data-driven approach to workplace excellence. They help their clients to consolidate culture, leadership, and strategy in order to further their efforts towards their goals. SHIFT helps clients establish long-term, profitable, scalable business growth while sending employees home happier, healthier, and more fulfilled.

“Leaders and individuals and organizations continue to struggle to translate talent and potential into performance,” says Andrew. “We were wondering, ‘why is that?’”

Andrew and the team at SHIFT aim to assess and improve the way businesses make use of resources (personnel and otherwise) to improve the way they do what they do. Their approach largely considers the psychology of workplace culture.

“Much of what we do is really rooted in psychology,” says Andrew. “It’s understanding the way people are wired, how they think, and why they do the things they do. By understanding that, you can get these breadcrumbs and these clues to understanding actually how to shift the way people think, how to shift the way they behave and really elevate engagement and performance in the workplace.”

Whereas Mike and Alison usually talk to their guests about their favorite books, in this case, they were excited to talk to Andrew about the book he authored, Thrive: The Leader’s Guide to Building a High Performance Culture.

“It’s a representation of who I am and what I believe, and I couldn’t be more proud of what we’re releasing to the world,” says Andrew. “It really is a leader’s guide. Any leader can pick it up and use the stories and the examples to take action and put things into play. This book is intended to be a practical, user-friendly guide.”
