Mike And Alison After Hours: Patrick Shek — Legacy Exhibits & The Legacy Experience
This episode of the Mike And Alison After Hours podcast features Patrick Shek, partner with Legacy Exhibits & The Legacy Experience.
Cohosts Mike and Alison started this episode with updates and recent developments from both of their working worlds. Whereas Mike has been focused a lot on CMMC, and spoke about a key client of his who has shown a lot of initiative in learning about it, Alison spoke on the topic of fostering long-term business relationships and sales opportunities.
They discussed that, as much as you may like to push a sale forward and reduce the time frame in any way possible, it’s critical to still offer the time for the prospect to do their due diligence. Guiding the potential client through the process of evaluating their needs and alternative options is an important part of closing that sale eventually.

Get To Know Patrick Shek, Partner With Legacy Exhibits & The Legacy Experience
Patrick Shek is a partner with Legacy Exhibits & The Legacy Experience. Whereas the former is a turnkey service, and assists businesses with the design and deployment of trade show and event booths and promo materials, the latter manages presence and delivery at the event.
“Our key point at the top is the management side,” says Patrick. “That’s really, mitigating risk, mitigating problems, what can we do before the freight hits the show floor that will help mitigate the process and become more efficient, and navigate any potential issues before you get there.”
Their approach to their work with clients begins by examining the “why” of what they do. With this foundation, Patrick and his team determine the client’s needs and help them figure out the perfect way to deliver that message when promoting their business at trade and networking events.
While every type of business was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic in some way, perhaps none were more so than businesses like Legacy Exhibits & The Legacy Experience. Their entire range of services depends on the existence of trade shows and other public events, all of which were canceled for the majority of 2020. When the pandemic hit, they were in the middle of delivering materials to a number of clients at trade shows in different areas, all of which had to be put on hold or returned.
“‘The first couple weeks after the “stop button” was pressed, we had to get all the property back,” says Patrick. “Once that died down, we started thinking about what we could do to pivot, to survive.”
Patrick and his team realized that, even though they wouldn’t be able to generate business from trade shows like usual, that didn’t mean there wasn’t a new opportunity to which they could apply their skills and resources. As it turned out, the way they design and build booths for clients could be modified to instead construct hygiene barriers, which would be in high demand throughout the pandemic.
They also began producing marketing material, apparel, and other promo collateral. They knew their clients could still use these items, and now had the time to devote to them. In both these cases, Patrick and the team at Legacy Exhibits & The Legacy Experience simply looked at what they had to work with, and what their clients needed, and did what was necessary to pivot quickly.
